2 May 2011. Personalities such as Dominic Barton (Canada), Global Managing Director of McKinsey & Company and Oswald Grübel (Germany), Group Chief Executive Officer of UBS, will contribute their points of view to the intercultural, interdisciplinary and intergenerational dialogue at the 41st St. Gallen Symposium of 12 and 13 May 2011.

International survey

The HSG’s International Students’ Committee (ISC), which is organising the Symposium, conducted a survey among 625 students, young academics and entrepreneurs, the “leaders of tomorrow”, in cooperation with Credit Suisse for the second time this year. This “Global Perspectives Barometer” was evaluated by the polling firm gfs.bern.

The survey was intended to reflect the mood prevalent among young people worldwide and provide an opportunity to detect trends over the next few years. Under this year’s topic of the St. Gallen Symposium, “Just Power”, interviewees were asked about issues such as the global power structure, communication behaviour and the social media, as well as the interaction between the state and the economy.

Globalisation winners

One of the results of the international survey is the fact that the students, young academics and entrepreneurs interviewed see themselves as being on the winners’ side of globalisation. In terms of their own countries, they think that advantages prevail, whereas their insecurity about the impact of globalisation on the world outside Western Europe has increased.
