Global Family Business Index

Listing the world’s 500 largest family businesses, the Global Family Business Index demonstrates the economic power and the relevance of family firms.

Findings of the 2023 series:

  • The world's 500 largest family businesses have combined sales of  USD 8.02 trillion and employ approximately 24.5 million people worldwide.
  • Almost half of the companies in the index are based in Europe. North America is home to 30 percent of family businesses, and Asia Pacific accounts for 16 percent of family businesses in the index.
  • Longevity and stability continue to be a characteristic of the companies listed in the 2023 Index. More than three-quarters (76 percent) have been in existence for more than 50 years, and nearly a third (31 percent) are more than a century old.
