The Global 500 Family Business Index shows the world´s 500 largest family businesses.

Four findings of the 2025 Index:

  • If the world's 500 largest family businesses were a country, they  – if such a comparison is at all allowed – would be the third largest country in the world with a combined turnover of 8800 billion dollars, exceeded only by the gross domestic product of the United States and China.
  • The world's 500 largest family businesses employ a total of 25.1 million people and have increased their turnover by 10 percent since 2023.
  • One third of the world's 500 largest family businesses are more than 100 years old, and almost half (47%) are based in Europe.
  • Of the 500 largest family businesses in the world, 77 are based in Germany, 19 in Switzerland and 7 in Austria.
