1 August 2018. Prof. J. Peter Murmann, PhD, was born on 28 January 1967 and is a German citizen.

Murmann completed his BA at the University of California in Berkeley in 1990. In 1997 he concluded an MPhil in Management of Organizations at Columbia University, and in 1998 he gained his doctorate at the same university in Management of Organizations. His doctoral thesis was entitled “Knowledge and Competitive Advantage”. He then took on a post as Assistant Professor at Kellogg School of Management, where he worked until 2005. In 2006 he was offered a position as Associate Professor at the UNSW Australia Business School, and in 2016 he was appointed as Full Professor. He has held the title of AGSM Fellow since 2016. Prior to that he held the office of Academic Director of the AGSM Strategic Management Year and Head of School Strategy & Entrepreneurship.

Prof. J. Peter Murmann has already published his research in renowned journals on multiple occasions and has also received several honours for his publications. Among them is the Joseph Schumpeter Prize, which is awarded every two years for particular services and contributions relating to Schumpeter’s work. His work has also been awarded the K. William Kapp Prize by the European Association for Evolutionary Political Economy.

Strategic forecasts as research focus

The current research focuses of Prof. J. Peter Murmann, PhD, are improving strategic forecasts and developing innovation capacity in China. Interesting advances for both research and practice are offered in particular by his current projects on strategic forecasts with the aim of generating an objective mass of forecasting capabilities for individuals as well as strategy and forecast departments. His approach is innovative and modern thanks to the inclusion of big-data forecasting through the masses.

Prof. J. Peter Murmann, PhD, was on the Editorial Board of the Strategic Management Journal and currently serves as Deputy-Editor-in-Chief for the Management and Organization Review.

Experience in the management of course programmes

Murmann has many years of experience in the management of course programmes and as a lecturer. He is able to convey basic knowledge as well as to offer special courses. Prof. J. Peter Murmann has also taught EMBA courses in Strategic Management and in Management of Organizations. Furthermore, he has developed a doctoral course in Evolutionary Theories of Organization. He was awarded the Team Teaching Award by the Australian School of Business for his teaching in 2010. As a Professor, he takes up an active mentoring role with respect to his PhD students.
