17 September 2012. The SIM-HSG’s top position in the Financial Times ranking underlines the decades of efforts in management research and teaching at the University of St.Gallen. The Master’s programme in Strategy and International Management has reached the first place for the second time running in this evaluation, which is open worldwide and in which a total of 70 programmes have been ranked. The integrative approach of the St.Gallen Management Model constitutes the conceptual basis of the SIM programme, which aims to educate managers, consultants and entrepreneurs for a globalised economy who are at once competent and imbued with a sense of responsibility.

Social responsibility

In the SIM, a great deal of importance is attached to managerial responsibility, social competence and integrative thinking. Courses and seminars are supplemented by so-called “SIM integratives”, in which students examine topical management challenges such as international growth strategies, acquisitions and the integration of companies or the development of business ideas. In doing so, they try to find solutions with an interdisciplinary and integrative approach.

Top grades for Business Administration
While in the latest Financial Times ranking, the SIM programme has earned top grades in the field of teaching, the latest Handelsblatt ranking grades research in Business Administration in the German-speaking area. According to this ranking, the University of St.Gallen has the strongest Business Administration faculty and is ranked first. With 44 full-time professors, the HSG has the second largest Business Administration faculty in the German-speaking area, just behind the Vienna University of Economics and Business. Second place in the Handelsblatt ranking was awarded to the University of Vienna, which was followed by the University of Zurich. All in all, the Business Administration faculties of 106 universities were evaluated.
