24 August 2009. In cooperation with the GS1 Service Center for Logistics, the Chair of Logistics Management of the University of St.Gallen (LOG-HSG) will organize the regional event in connection with the Swiss Logistics Day on 18 September 2009 from 3.00-6.30 p.m.

Latest trends and job perspectives
In specialist speeches, experts from academia and practice will provide information about the latest trends and about the job perspectives in the industry. The speakers include Dr. Ralf Eigenmann (CEO of St.Gallen’s Public Transport System), Oliver Evans (CEO Swiss WorldCargo), Jens Krüger (Director Road Logistics M&M International Holding AG) and Sven Martin (Senior Partner of Bodensee Logjob AG).

Both logistics trends on the Swiss market and the funding of short-distance public transport in Switzerland – with St.Gallen serving as an example – will be highlighted. The national action day is aimed at both specialists and the general public.

Crucial driver of the Swiss economy
With 165,000 employees and a turnover of CHF 34bn (Germany: EUR 170bn), logistics is a crucial driver of the Swiss economy. In the last few years, the industry has grown by between 4 and 6 percent. Today, it accounts for 7.5 percent of Switzerland’s economic output. Issues such as outsourcing and global sourcing are topical in all industries.

Extend competencies in logistics management
The analysis, optimization and control of material and goods flows are making an essential contribution to the entire value creation chain of enterprises. On the basis of the economic significance of the logistics industry for Switzerland, the University of St.Gallen has been continuously extending its competencies in logistics management ever since May 2007.

The participation of LOG-HSG in BestLog, Europe’s biggest logistics project, and commissions from the Swiss Postal Service and the Federal Roads Office (Astra) demonstrate that the competence of HSG academics in the field of logistics is in demand.
