St. Gallen Wings of Excellence Award celebrates its 30th competition

The "Wings of Excellence" essay competition will be held for the 30th time next year as part of the St. Gallen Symposium. Heike Bruch becomes president of the preliminary jury.

11 October 2017. Last week, the St. Gallen Symposium announced that Prof. Dr. Heike Bruch will be the new president of the preliminary jury. The jury is made up of a group of doctoral candidates and young post-docs from the HSG and ETH Zurich and is responsible for examining all competition entries. In addition, the pre-jury selects 100 students each year who are eligible to participate in the St. Gallen Symposium in May. In the past 23 years, Dr. Günter Müller-Stewens has chaired the jury. Under his presidency, the competition developed into a global and wide-ranging part of the symposium.

Consistent quality

"I have found that the quality of the essays have always been consistent," said Müller-Stewens. "What led me to become involved with the Award was its focus on gathering ideas from students around the globe." This year the St. Gallen Wings of Excellence Award celebrates its 30th competition since 1989 and plans are in the works to commemorate this achievement.

Students from all over the world

The competition reaches out to students around the globe. Each year, roughly 1,000 graduate and postgraduate student from 350 universities in 80 countries compete for this prestigious award. The authors of the top 100 essays are invited to attend the St. Gallen Symposium in May. The three awardees will share in the 30,000 CHF prize money.

The 48th St. Gallen Symposium will take place from 2–4 May, 2018. Over 600 Leaders of Today will join 200 Leaders of Tomorrow at to debate this year’s topic «Beyond the end of work».
