2 September 2015. Almost 8,300 students have enrolled for the 2015 Autumn Semester at the University of St.Gallen (HSG) (preceding year: 8,020 students). In the Assessment Year, 1,551 (preceding year: 1,514) are expected; at the Bachelor’s Level, 2,790 (2,675). At the Master’s Level, there will be 3,260 (3,150) students, and about 669 (670) students have enrolled for the Doctoral Level at the HSG.

As usual, the enrolment statistics for the 2015 Autumn Semester will be published in mid-December. Experience shows that the number of students will have decreased by then. This is because some students are still trying to find their bearings, fail to turn up for their studies or discontinue them after a few weeks.

Risk report for Switzerland

160 tutors will supervise students’ work on the case study on the topic of risk during the Freshers’ Week. Helvetia Insurance is supporting the project for the second time this year. During Freshers’ Week, the case study groups made up of about 20 students will be acting as “expert groups for risk and security”. They will receive a fictitious commission from the Confederation to draw up a “2015 Risk Report” for Switzerland. They will identify the major risks in Switzerland, analyse their hazard potential and consider recommendations for action. On Friday, all 60 groups will undergo a pre-jury assessment.

The new students will present the best project ideas on Friday, 11 September, on the occasion of the concluding event in St.Gallen’s Olma Hall 2.1 before the jury, the Assessment Year students, numerous guests and HSG members.

HSG Kick-off Days on the topic of “Fairy Fail-y Tale”

In the week from 7-12 September 2015, the HSG will welcome about 700 new students to the Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral Levels within the framework of the English-language Kick-off Days. The introductory programme will provide the newcomers with an insight into the organisational processes of campus life. In the academic programme, students will focus on the key topic of “Fairy Fail-y Tale”. The notion of “failure” will be dealt with in terms of some of its individual aspects such as “digital failure”, “political failure in Eastern Europe” and “failure and sport”.
