7 September 2016. More than 8,400 students have enrolled for the 2016 Autumn Semester at the University of St.Gallen (HSG) (preceding year: 8,020 enrolled students). 1,629 (1,551) undergraduates are expected for the Assessment Year, and 2,979 (2,790) for the Bachelor’s Level. 3,116 (3,260) students have enrolled for the Master’s Level. At the Ph.D. Level, 714 (669) graduates have enrolled at the University of St.Gallen.

The enrolment statistics for the 2016 Autumn Semester will be published in mid-December as usual. Experience shows that the number of students will have decreased by then, because some students are still trying to find their bearings while others will fail to turn up or will leave again after a few weeks.

Identifying and categorising old-age provision risks

For 1,629 undergraduates, the academic year will already start with the Freshers’ Week of 12-16 September 2016, which will be run in both German and English at the HSG for the fourth time.

160 tutors and support crew members will supervise students at work on the old-age provision risk case study during the Freshers’ Week. Helvetia Insurance is supporting the project for the third time this year.

During the Freshers’ Week, the case study group with an average of 24 members will work from Monday to Thursday. They will devise a campaign to sensitise Generation Y to the issue of old-age provision in the context of a fictitious invitation from the Federal Social Insurance Office. Students will present the best campaigns at the concluding event in St.Gallen’s Olma Hall 2.1 on Friday, 16 September between 10.15 a.m. and 12.30 p.m.

HSG Kick-off Days on the topic of "An ovation for innovation!"

About 700 new students at the Bachelor’s, Master’s and Ph.D. Levels will become acquainted with the University of St.Gallen in an introductory programme tailored to their requirements: the English-language Kick-off Days. In the academic part of the programme, the newcomers will deal with the topic of "An ovation for innovation!". Workshops on 16 September from 3-5 p.m., for instance, will focus on the digitalisation of products and on challenges for innovations in medicine.
