31 October 2014. The communication of scientific topics and results is a great challenge for researchers, science communication experts and media officers. Over the years, demands made on the quality of science communication have increased. Numerous communication channels are available for the conveyance of scientific topics: social media make direct communication between citizens and researchers possible.

Watchdog for science

During the conference, experts from trade and industry, academia and journalism will discuss trends in and challenges of science communication, among them the question as to how industrial companies and universities communicate research results. Scientists are becoming active as communicators of their own research results with increasing frequency.

The role of science editors is also changing. Newsrooms frequently lack the resources to conduct in-depth research and to pin down new research topics critically. A science editor will provide an insight into the newsroom everyday life of the “watchdog for science”.
