Economic cooperation in South East Asia

José Ramos-Horta will explain how social engagement can be implemented in practice with economic and political sustainability. In his lecture, the Nobel Peace Prize winner will talk about his experience as a freedom fighter and statesman, as an ambassador and prime minister at the United Nations and as the former President of East Timor. Subsequently, he will conduct a debate with HSG students about future decision-makers’ responsibility for events in the world.

In the course of his visit to the HSG, the Nobel Peace Prize winner will also discuss cooperation ventures with Eastern Swiss companies and student initiatives. The event will be organised by the University of St.Gallen’s Asia Connect Center and the Swiss-Asian Chamber of Commerce.

A further project which Ramos-Horta will launch in Switzerland is a foundation for East Timor, which is intended to promote the development of that country.

HSG network in Asia for Swiss SMEs
The HSG inaugurated the Asia Connect Center together with the cantons of the St.GallenBodenseeArea in June 2012. It particularly supports small and medium-sized enterprises in the region in establishing and extending their Asian business. In the last few years, the HSG has set up various networks in the emerging countries, where it provides support in terms of market analyses, networking and education in management and administration. Small and medium-sized enterprises from the St.GallenBodenseeArea can profit free of charge from the HSG’s Asian connection through the Asia Connect Center.
