10 November 2009. Two years ago, the University of St.Gallen (HSG) and Hamburg’s Kampnagel Culture Factory organize the international Parcitypate Symposium in Hamburg. In the discussion laboratory, personalities from the arts, academia and development planning debated variants and effects of the artistic appropriation of urban space.

Launch accompanied by Armin Chodzinski
The major intellectual stimuli that arose from the discussion have now been compiled in a book. Parcitypate: Art and Urban Space is the title of the new publication, which will be presented in the Kunsthalle St.Gallen on 17 November 2009 at 6.30 p.m. The public book launch will be accompanied by a performance of the Hamburg artist and academic Armin Chodzinski.

Impact of art on urban space
What is the impact of art on urban space? Far from the beaten track of the discourses of the theory of art, urban construction and municipal politics, the Parcitypate Project united artists, curators and innovative thinkers on matters urban and spatial in a debate.

The book Parcitypate: Art and Urban Space is the result of this discussion process. It has been edited by the HSG researchers Sophie-Thérèse Krempl and Dr. Timon Beyes, as well as by Amelie Deuflhard, the Director of the Kampnagel Culture Factory. Topical examples are intended to trigger a debate on new perspectives of the effects of artistic work in urban space.
