The lives of the others
The film "Das Leben der Anderen" describes the self-conception and methods of State Security in the GDR of the 1980s. The Stasi member Gerd Wiesler shadows the artist Georg Dreyman. The surveillance operation has consequences for both men: the Stasi spy gradually starts to protect his surveillance victim, who increasingly turns from being a state artist who toes the party line into a critic of the system.

Director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck’s (d) Film has earned numerous national and international awards, among them the 2006 German and European Film Prizes and the 2007 Oscar for the Best Foreign Language Film.
