9 September 2011. After the conclusion of the five-year renovation and extension work, the University of St.Gallen is inviting people to its Open House on the HSG Campus on 17 September 2011. The Open House, with which the University would like to thank the population for their support of the renovated and extended facilities, will be under the motto of “HSG is all of us” and will start at 10 a.m. At 11 a.m. in the Aula, the State Secretary for Education and Research, Mauro Dell'Ambrogio, Stefan Kölliker, Cantonal Education Minister, Peter Spenger, Chairman of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Franziska Tschudi, CEO of Wicor, and Hanspeter Trütsch, Federal Palace Editor of Swiss Radio and Television, will debate the topic of "Intellectual Center HSG – St.Gallen Lace or Just Old Threads?”

From taster lectures to a sports programme

Visitors may want to get the feeling of being a “student for a day” by attending one of five sample lectures, whose topics will range from leadership to money laundering. Unisport will be offering an active programme in the newly erected Sports Hall, and the “ad hoc” student café will provide a place to relax in. The ideal event for children will be the Children’s University at 3.30 p.m., in which Professor Elgar Fleisch will talk about computers. Those who would like to have a closer look at the University can join the guided tours of the buildings (10.15 a.m., 1.00 and 2.00 p.m.) or of the works of art (1.30, 2.30 and 3.30 p.m.). The meeting point for the guided tours will be the Infodesk in the Main Building.

Fictitious court proceeding

From 1.00-2.00 p.m. and from 2.30-3.30 p.m. visitors will be given an opportunity to have a discussion with professors and their guests within the framework of “A coffee with…” The professors will discuss such topics as plagiarism, small and medium sized companies and voluntary work. From 5.00-6.00 p.m. HSG students will stage a so-called moot court – a fictitious court proceeding. The moot court will be in English but will be introduced in German by Professor Markus Müller-Chen.

Besides these activities, numerous associations of the HSG will be presenting themselves. Doctoral students will describe their research work in an illustrative way. There will be an exhibition of photos of the HSG in the past and today, a coffee bar run by HSG Alumni, a wheel of fortune with attractive prizes, a competition, a wide variety of information about the University, a stand on “Health in the Workplace”, a bouncy castle, gastronomic delights and a great deal more.

Concert with 77 Bombay Street and Monophon

In the evening, the HSG will stage a concert with the folk rockers of 77 Bombay Street in the park of the Burggraben Cantonal School. With this concert, the University of St.Gallen would like to thank St.Gallen’s population for their support of the Campus renovation and extension work. The four brothers of 77 Bombay Street have not merely been an insiders’ tip since the launch of their song “Up in the Sky”, which is being played by radio stations everywhere. Their inspirational folk rock wows a constantly increasing fan community. At 7 p.m. the St.Gallen band Monophon, who opened this year’s St.Gallen Open Air, will be performing.
