2 July 2009. This year, more than 1100 candidates (previous year: more than 1000 for the first time) from 30 nations have registered. The admission quota is about 20%.

Ever since the fall of 2002, the University of St.Gallen (HSG) has run a written admission test for prospective foreign students once a year. The reason for this is the fact that the number of foreign students at the HSG is limited to 25% by law while the interest of prospective students in studying in St.Gallen manifestly exceeds the number of places provided for them.

From Sweden to Singapore
In 2009, more than 1100 candidates have registered for the admission test. In 2008, candidates exceeded the 1000 mark for the first time.

This year’s candidates come from the following 30 nations: Austria, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Croatia, France, Germany, Guatemala, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Moldavia, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Rumania, Russia, Sweden, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey, the UK and the USA.

Test and interview
In the written test, cognitive skills such as text analysis, quantitative problem solving, language systems and diagram interpretation are examined. Specimen questions can be downloaded online.

Candidates who are placed in the borderline area between admission and rejection are additionally invited for an interview on the following day, on the basis of which the decision regarding admission will be made. In the oral interview (30 minutes), the focus can be positioned more strongly on candidates’ personalities in terms of the HSG’s guiding principles such as responsibility, critical faculty and entrepreneurship.
