More students at the HSG

In Fall Semester 2009, 6418 students were matriculated at the University of St.Gallen (HSG), about 500 more than the previous year. The proportion of women totals 30.52 percent.

23 December 2009. In Fall Semester 2009, 6418 students were matriculated at the University of St.Gallen (HSG) (previous year: 5928). The proportion of women totals 30.52 percent (previous year: 29.88). A total of 2328 (2061) young people are studying at Bachelor’s Level, while 1969 (1746) are matriculated at Master’s Level and 792 (789) are doctoral students.

Just under two thousand female students at the HSG
The proportion of women at the Assessment Level amounts to 34 (31) percent. 678 (590) from among 2328 undergraduates are women, which corresponds to 29 (29) percent. At Master’s Level, the proportion of women is 30 (30) percent, and at doctoral level 31 (30) percent. All in all there are 1959 female students at the University of St.Gallen (HSG).

Canton of Zurich strongly represented
In the statistics of the cantons of origin (place of residence at the time of qualifying for university entrance), the Canton of Zurich, with 915 (851) students, beats the Canton of St.Gallen with 826 (791) students. In third place is the Canton of Thurgau with 320 (308) students at the HSG, followed by the Canton of Aargau with 305 (297). 270 (261) students come from Berne, 197 (178) from Lucerne and 186 (185) from the Grisons.

Increase in internationality
The largest group of foreign students, including guest students (also accounted for according to their place of residence when they qualified for university entrance) comes from the German-speaking countries (Germany 1314 (1176), Austria 154 (132) and Liechtenstein 65 (65)).

Sizeable groups come from France 45 (51), the USA 46 (42), China 35 (23), Russia 31 (30), the UK 25 (21), Singapore 22 (27), Sweden 12 (16), Spain 21 (20), India 14 (12), Italy 25 (16), Poland 10 (14), Brazil 18 (18), Norway 15 (15) and Finland 10 (11). The number of matriculated students from the Asian region registered a particular increase. All in all, students from 80 nations are matriculated at the HSG.

The quota of foreign students at the University of St.Gallen (HSG) is limited to 25 per cent by law.
