Psychological research has long shown that we perceive objects more positively when they are shaped like humans. This so-called anthropomorphization is also used where robots come into frequent contact with humans. Usually these are then humanoid in design, i.e. they have a face and a human-like body. However, the situation is different for industrial robots, where such anthropomorphization via external appearance is usually dispensed with. However, since such manufacturing robots will increasingly work directly with humans in the future, researchers at the HSG wanted to find out whether one-armed industrial robots can be perceived as more human-like purely through their movements.
