24 January 2011. The University of St.Gallen offers the general public an extensive range of public lectures, which aim to open up new horizons. The wide-angle photographs in the new issue of the directory illustrate that original distortions can sometimes achieve a greater depth of focus and spatial intensity. Thus the experimental lectures in the St.Gallen Main Post Office Building bear witness to the University of St.Gallen’s interest in encouraging new contours that deviate from the mainstream at times.

Four lectures in Frauenfeld
Of the 39 public lecture series in Spring Semester 2011, 32 will take place at the University and 6 in the City of St.Gallen (one in the ceremonial hall at St.Katharinen, one in the Post Office Building by the railway station, as well as the “city walks” from different meeting points). The region, too, will be integrated again; thus a four-lecture series on “Responsibility in corporate management” will be delivered at the Frauenfeld Cantonal School from early March to early April.

Discussion forum Am Puls
The HSG also hopes to discover new perspectives with ventures such as the series on “Gyro Gearloose& Co: how do we invent new products?” in the Children’s University (2, 9, 16 and 23 March) and the new discussion forum Am Puls (8 and 22 March). With the latter, the professors of the University of St.Gallen would like to introduce a discussion platform which enables them to spontaneously enter into a dialogue with the general public and to debate topical, controversial issues with them. In this way, the HSG will be able to listen to the heartbeat of public opinion with regard to regional, national and international questions, to make a diagnosis as the case may be, and to show that its research is on the pulse of time.
