Inauguration of the School of Finance

The School of Finance (SoF-HSG) is one of the five new Schools into which the four previous Departments of the University have been transformed. <br/>Its founding event will take place on Friday, 20 May 2011 with 180 guests.

9 May 2011. With the establishment of the School of Finance (SoF-HSG),the University is taking account of the increasing significance of finance as a cross-sectional function in all areas of the economy. The new School concentrates the finance activities within the HSG in order to treat issues concerning financial markets and financial institutions with holistic contributions in teaching, research and practice.

Managing system-relevant risks

According to the motto of the “management of system-relevant risks”, theSoF-HSG pursues an integrated treatment of system-relevant risks, market and credit risks. Research is strongly shaped by interschool cooperation within theCenter for Wealth & Risk. The Swiss Institute of Banking and Finance (s/bf-HSG) and the Institute for Operations Research and Computational Finance (ior/cf-HSG) are the founder institutes which constitute the strategic core of the new School.

Founding event on 20 May 2011

The founding event of the School of Finance will take place on the Executive Campus of the University ofSt.Gallenon Friday, 20 May 2011 with about 180 invited guests from theory and practice. The event will focus on contributions about current issues concerning financial markets and Switzerland as a financial centre, which are still trying to come to terms with the latest failings on the finance and capital markets. Prof. Dr. Jean-Pierre Danthine (Governing Board, SNB) will speak about the challenges faced by the Swiss National Bank. Dr. Klaus W. Wellershoff (CEO,Wellershoff& Partners Ltd.) will speak about the lessons learnt from the banking crisis. Prof. Dr. Martin Brown (s/bf-HSG) will give his inaugural lecture on the attractiveness of Swiss banks for foreign assets.
