Outsiders and elites in "Elling"
"Elling" is the second film of the Norwegian film and theatre director Petter Naess and is based on a play of the same title. The film narrates the story of the oddball protagonist and his gentle friend Kjell Bjarne. After several years as inmates of a psychiatric clinic, they are discharged. Kjell and Elling have to shape their everyday lives on their own again and to survive in society.

Discussion about outsiders and elites
As outsiders, Elling and Kjell muster the courage to conquer their integrity in everyday life. Elite and underclass, achievement and failure, and integrity and making friends come up for discussion in the film. The film was nominated for an Oscar in the "Best Foreign Language Film" category in 2002.
