Enrolment statistics for fall 2019 semester

In the current autumn 2019 semester there are 8,872 students from a total of 83 countries enrolled at the University of St.Gallen.

6 December 2019. In the current autumn 2019 semester, there are 8,872 students enrolled at the University of St.Gallen (HSG; previous year: 8,669). A total of 1,730 (1,762) young people are in their assessment year, while 3,180 (3,113) are studying at the bachelor's level. There are 3,323 (3,154) students enrolled at the master's level and 613 (624) at the doctoral level. Another 26 (16) students are pursuing additional training. 

The canton of origin (place of residence when admitted to university) with the strongest representation among students is Zurich, with 1,199 (previous year: 1,182). The canton of St.Gallen comes in second with 1,017 (1,010) students, followed by Thurgau 405 (387). The HSG has 114 (112) students from Appenzell Ausserrhoden and 36 (36) from Appenzell Innerrhoden. 

The largest group of foreign students, including exchange students (place of residence when admitted to university) come from German-speaking countries: Germany 1,492 (1,421), Austria 269 (259), Liechtenstein 69 (59). Larger groups of students come from Italy 123 (108), France 86 (99), China 96 (94), the United States 44 (46), Singapore 37 (41), Russia 30 (39) and Spain 32 (34). 

Students from a total of 83 countries are enrolled at the University of St.Gallen in the autumn 2019 semester. The student body is 35.4 per cent female (35.7). The percentage of foreign nationals at the HSG has been legally set to a maximum of 25 per cent since the 1960s.
