18 October 2012. Twelve days ahead of the U.S. elections, an expert panel at the University of St. Gallen will discuss the outlook for global energy and climate policies. In the light of a very tight race in the presidential election campaign, what will be the outlook for a country that accounts for nearly one fifth of global carbon emissions and continues to be the largest consumer of oil? How will the elections impact the outlook for renewable energies in the United States and elsewhere? Is the current deadlock in federal policies, such as the incentives for wind energy under the Production Tax Credit (PTC), going to be overcome after the election? Can state-level policies fill the gap? And how much does U.S. energy and climate policy matter anyway in a globalized world where European countries have adopted ambitious energy policy targets and economic power has increasingly shifted to Asia?
