Election of University governors

The Cantonal Parliament has elected the Board of Governors of the University. The eleven members include former Federal Councillor Ruth Metzler, the Social Democrat National Councillor Hildegard Fässler, Judge Silvia Bietenharder-Künzle and Martin Huser, Chairman of the IGSG.

5 June 2012. In its June session, the St.Gallen Cantonal Parliament has newly elected the Board of Governors of the University. During the 2012-2016 term of office, the HSG’s supreme organ will again be chaired by Cantonal Minister of Education Stefan Kölliker of the Swiss Popular Party. Dr. Peter Schorer was elected Vice-Chairman. Karl Güntzel, Hans M. Richle, René Romanin, Sally Gschwend and Thomas Scheitlin continue to be members of the Board.

Two prominent women elected as Board members
The new members of the University’s Board of Governors include former Federal Councillor Ruth Metzler and the Social Democrat National Councillor Hildegard Fässler. After her time as a Federal Councillor, Ruth Metzler worked as a lecturer at the HSG for two years. Since 2010, she has been a self-employed business consultant in Appenzell. She was a Federal Councillor for the Christian Democrats from 1999 to 2003. Hildegard Fässler has been a member of the National Council since 1997.

The further new Board members are Silvia Bietenharder-Künzle (Swiss Popular Party, Jona), tax expert and judge at the Cantonal Administrative Court, and Martin Huser, Chairman of the Appenzell AR-St.Gallen-Bodensee Region Location Management Association (IGSG) and Cantonal Delegate of the Christian Democrats.

Former members of the Board of Governors
Maria Schneider-Feil, Werner Gächter, Dr Max Ehrbar and Renato Baumgartner have concluded their terms of office in the HSG’s supreme organ. The University of St.Gallen would like to thank these former members of the Board of Governors for their commitment (sda/red).
