20 September 2010. On 20 September 2010, the University of St.Gallen (HSG) awarded 65 doctorates – 54 in Economics, four in Political Sciences, six in Law, and one Doctor of Philosophy in Economics and Finance.

Nine graduates were awarded the highest distinction, summa cum laude. In his ceremonial address, HSG President Ernst Mohr spoke about the significance of the ends and beginnings of various stages in life, and about the art of seasoning these with the “salt of life”.

Transitions have a determining impact on life
Ernst Mohr called on the graduates to become aware of what the award ceremony was all about: It marked a beginning, a new chapter in the new doctors’ lives.

It was these transitions that determined our lives – a great number of people are in some transition or other at one and the same time. But depending on perspectives, such transitions are appraised in different ways. Particular attention is paid to periods between a beginning and an end rather than to the stages between ends and beginnings although the latter are usually of at least equal significance – and certainly more interesting.
