30 January 2014. The HSG campus on the Rosenberg only provides part of the premises occupied by the University. Some of the less conspicuous buildings have been photographed for the brochure of the public lecture programme. In many ways, the HSG's spatial-development challenges are similar to those of Switzerland as a whole. In the lecture series on Swiss metropolitan regions, experts in the field – among them Basel’s architect Jacques Herzog – will sound out the possibilities and limits of high-density building.

Current and historical issues
The lecture on criminalistics will deal with a topic that triggers controversial discussions in the media: the treatment of high-risk criminals. In his lecture, the forensic scientist Frank Urbaniok, one of Switzerland' best-known experts, will comment on the most important points in the treatment of people who constitute a public danger.

In earlier times, there was a simple and even lucrative method for ridding Switzerland of men who were prepared to use violence: they were sent to serve foreign powers as mercenaries. In his lecture, the historian Peter Huber outlines the history of Swiss mercenaries and partisans in the 20th century.

Change in the programme executive
The brochure of the public lecture programme provides information about the 40 lectures at the University. A quarter of these will be delivered in the city. With "The HSG in the region" series, the University will be present in Wil Cantonal School this semester with a lecture series on "Sustainable learning and education for a sustainable development". This semester, Prof. Dr. Caspar Hirschi took over as the Director of the programme. He was also able to take over a broadly based range of lectures from his predecessor, Prof. Dr. Yvette Sánchez, who had run the programme for many years: besides economic lectures, there are lectures ranging from language and literature to culture and art and to psychology and theology.
