Climate lawsuits: Prospects of success and consequences

The political mills are currently working too slowly in many countries to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement. This has prompted various environmental protection actors to take the legal route. In more than 1,800 so-called climate lawsuits worldwide, companies and states are standing in court to answer for their contribution to climate change. In Switzerland the cement manufacturer Holcim was sued by Indonesian islanders and the climate seniors dragged the Swiss federal state before the European Court of Human Rights because of its climate policy. Prof. Dr. Valentin Jentsch of the Law School of the HSG addresses the prospects of success and consequences of this increasingly occurring phenomenon in his book "Climate Lawsuits against Extractive Companies".
