31 October 2017. Insurance, career choice, company formation and foreign purchase. This year’s Children’s University will dedicate a 45 minute afternoon lecture to each of the four topics. The four lectures will introduce children from the third grade in an entertaining and stimulating way to topics that are being researched by professors at the University of St.Gallen.

Four independent lectures
How do you make a career choice? Does it require a special talent or a lot of joy in doing an activity? Should girls go into typically female professions and should boys go into typically male ones? Do these even exist? Associate professor Julia Nentwich explores such questions in her children’s lecture. If you have a particularly good idea – and some courage – you may even start your own business, like Bill Gates or Oprah Winfrey. Professor Andrea Back reveals what else is needed on the way from a flash of inspiration to forming a company. But it will take more than just forming a company. In order to run the company successfully, there needs to be a demand for your products. More and more people in Switzerland are buying them abroad. What does this mean for Swiss companies? With emeritus professor Rolf Dubs, children will think about this current issue. But how are purchased items best insured? What happens if they are stolen during a burglary? Who pays for the damage or the replacement of the stolen goods? Professor Martin Eling will show the children why they need insurance to sleep well at night.

Get a taste of the university
The aim of the Children’s University is to introduce socially relevant topics to the young university visitors as a supplement to school material. The children will get an exciting insight into the university and can visit all or some of the four thematically independent lectures. The Children’s University is integrated into the public programme of the University of St.Gallen. Admission is free, but registration is required. Every child gets a HSG Legi card. At the end of the lecture series, the students who attended all the courses will receive a certificate of participation.
