In his welcoming speech, Dr. Kurt Weigelt, head of IHK St.Gallen-Appenzell, said that the opportunity for regional businesses and students to meet each other was the primary purpose of this advanced education programme.

Social Media and Web 2.0
Corporate communications was the primary topic of the symposium, organized jointly by the IHK St.Gallen-Appenzell and the IHK Thurgau. St.Gallen Businessman Peter Weigelt started the programme with a presentation demonstrating the opportunities of Social Media, while  pointing out the risks of Web 2.0.

Issues of corporate communications
In ten smaller sessions, symposium participants exchanged views on the subject of „communication“. Other presenters, including Prof. Emil Annen and Dr. Frank Halter of HSG, addressed the traditional questions of corporate communications: What factors influence the relationship with the media? What does personalized corporate communication entail? How can communication managers support the process of corporate succession?

IHK symposium student participation
Following the sessions, students summarized the presentations and presented them in a plenary assembly. Beverages and conversation closed the fourth IHK symposium, which the University of St.Gallen will host again in the coming years.
