Research: Political theory and international relations

Dr. Dingwerth pursues an innovative research programme, which, at the interface between political theory and international relations, grapples with analytical and normative issues concerning the legitimacy of supranational governance. Among other issues, his analytical research explores the shift of international politics towards global governance. His normative research focuses, for example, on the possibilities for democracy under the conditions of globalisation and the connection between democracy and justice at the global, political level.

Publications in renowned journals

Dr. Dingwerth has published articles in many renowned journals such as the "European Journal of International Relations", "International Studies Quarterly", "Global Environmental Politics" and "Global Governance". Of his two books, "The New Transnationalism" (2007) was particularly widely read. In his future research, alongside the transformative effects of globalisation and climate change, Dr. Dingwerth intends to examine the significance of digitalisation for the processes of community building, democratic governance and the political experience of the individual.

Classes at all levels

Dr. Dingwerth will hold classes in the field of political theory at all levels (Bachelor, Master and Ph.D. level), in English and in German. He will also make a notable contribution within the framework of the SEPS strategy and the digitalisation strategy of the University of St.Gallen.
