1 February 2018. Joakim Wincent was born on 21 March 1975. He is a Swedish citizen.

In 2002, Prof. Joakim Wincent received an M.Sc. in Business Administration from the Luleå University of Technology, Sweden. He received his doctorate from the same university in 2006. The topic of his dissertation was "On Building Competitiveness in Strategic SME Networks". After receiving his doctorate, he was retained at Luleå University as Assistant Professor in Entrepreneurship; he was named Associate Professor there in the year 2008.

From 2009 to 2010, he was Professor of Business Administration at Umeå University, Sweden, and has been Full Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Luleå University of Technology since 2010. He has also been a full professor in Entrepreneurship and Management at the Hanken School of Economics in Sweden since 2014.

Multidisciplinary research approach

Prof. Joakim Wincent’s research approach is multidisciplinary. He integrates behaviour-oriented, organisational, economic and management-focused theories, and primarily uses quantitative methods such as longitudinal studies, panel analyses and structural equation models, but also qualitative methods. His research focuses on a broad thematic alignment with strengths in both areas – entrepreneurship and innovation. For example, he examines strategic networks and alliances with special consideration of R&D networks, or the phenomenon of "entrepreneurial passion".

The results of this research have been published multiple times in renowned magazines such as the "Academy of Management Review", but also in leading discipline-related journals such as the "Journal of Business Venturing".

Teaching experience

During his time at Umeå University, Prof. Joakim Wincent made crucial contributions to the development of the university’s Master’s programme in Entrepreneurship and Business Development. He has experience teaching in small groups, but also in “volume courses” with more than 200 students. Joakim Wincent taught a series of courses at the Master’s and PhD level.
