Prof. Enrico De Giorgi, Ph.D., has been Full Professor of Mathematics at the HSG’s School of Economics and Political Science since 1 August 2012.

Enrico De Giorgi, Ph.D., was born on 6 June 1975. He is a Swiss national.

De Giorgi read mathematics at ETH Zurich and completed his studies in 1999 with a Master’s degree in mathematics. In 2004 he obtained a Doctor’s degree from the University of Zurich, where he studied under Prof. Hens and Prof. Leippold. His thesis was entitled “Advancements on the Theory of Investment Science”.

Assistant professor at the HSG since 2009
From 2004 onwards, he worked as a senior researcher at the National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR-Finrisk) of the University of Zurich. From 2006 to 2010, Prof. Enrico De Giorgi, Ph.D. was employed as an assistant professor at the Institute of Finance at the Università della Svizzera italiana in Lugano; since 2011, he has been a visiting professor at the institute. In 2009, he accepted an assistant professorship at the University of St.Gallen.

Co-founder of BhFS Behavioural Finance Solutions GmbH
The academic career of Prof. Enrico De Giorgi, Ph.D. has been accompanied by further activities. Thus he is a co-founder of the firm BhFS Behavioural Finance Solutions GmbH (set up in 2007). Since 2009, he has been Associate Editor in the Decision Analysis Department of the journal Management Science and a member of the Research Board, Risklab.ae.

Honoured with the Young Economist Award

In 2007, Prof. Enrico De Giorgi, Ph.D. received the Young Economist Award of the Swiss Society of Economics and Statistics for his work on “Beta Regimes for the Yield Curve”. He had received the Young Economist Award of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey for “Reward-Risk Portfolio Selection and Stochastic Dominance” as early as 2003.

Prof. Enrico De Giorgi, Ph.D. is a peer reviewer for numerous journals and a member of various associations such as the Econometric Society and the European Finance Association.

Research foci
The research of Prof. Enrico De Giorgi, Ph.D. focuses on methodical developments for behavioural finance and risk management. In these fields, he has published papers in internationally recognised journals such as Management Science, the Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, Games and Economic Behaviour, the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis and the Journal of Banking and Finance. Numerous working papers, some of which are already being peer-reviewed, give reason to expect further (top) publications. In the Handelsblatt ranking of 2010 (Management), Prof. Enrico De Giorgi, Ph.D. was listed among the top 100 economists under 40 in the German-speaking area.

Courses in the Assessment Year and the Master’s and Ph.D. Levels
Prof. Enrico De Giorgi, Ph.D. holds a majority of his lectures in the elementary courses in mathematics – from the Assessment Year to Ph.D. studies – at the School of Economics and Political Science. He teaches courses in Mathematical Methods for Economics and Finance, Behavioural Finance and Quantitative Risk Management at the Master’s and Ph.D. Levels. He is also Director of the Quantitative Economic Methods profile area.
