15 February 2011. On four Tuesday evenings (22 February; 1, 8 and 15 March), this series will closely examine issues such as the loss of integral worlds, self-discovery in a fragmentary society, and border crossers in literature.

Escape or adaptation?
Flexible people are able to commute between different worlds whilst preserving continuity within themselves. However, what would it be like if the red thread that orients us within our experiences is missing and the worlds of experiences split up? Is a split personality an escape from or an adaptation to contradictory worlds? At night, in dreams and in the virtual spheres modelled on them, such fragmentation can be threatening. Fragments, however, can also be played with and juggled, and it may be liberating to find that “I am many”.

Four different perspectives
The lectures in the series “A world made up of fragments – border crossers and commuters” will take place in Room 09-011 (Library Building) from 8.15 to 9.45 p.m. The speakers will be the psychotherapist Andreas Wöhrle, Professor of Medicine Daniel Hell, HSGProfessor Ulrike Landfester (German Language and Literature) and the philosopher Lukas Germann.
