A Football party for the kick-off

Well-timed construction management and a lucky spell of good weather ensured that the artificial turf financed by the Academic Sports Association (ASV) could be inaugurated with a football tournament on 17 April 2009.

Fussballturnier zur Eröffnung des Kunstrasenplatzes der Universität St.Gallen

20. April 2009. Mixed teams – at least one woman player had to be on the pitch at all times – from the HSG Administration, the Pädagogische Hochschule, the FC Rotmonten, the Student Union and the students, as well as the hosting ASV, had the honor and the pleasure of scoring the first goals on the new pitch in front of a considerable number of spectators.

Inauguration by cutting a red tape
Previously, AVS President Christian Peter and HSG Director of Administration Markus Brönnimann, who together with Gaby Heeb, Director of the Executive Campus HSG, and a number of further executives and members of the HSG were responsible for providing all the players and guests with food and drink, had inaugurated the facility by symbolically cutting a red tape.

The realization of the new pitch, which besides the footballers is also used by the HSG’s lacrosse and landhockey players, could only be achieved thanks to the great financial commitment of the ASV, the IG of St.Gallen Sports Associations (Sport-Toto), and of Raiffeisen.

Tournament won by HSG Administration
The opening tournament was won by the team of the HSG Administration, who defeated the ASV side in a penalty shoot-out at the end of the final match by 4:2. The team of the student fraternities came third after a 2:0 win over the PHSG in the small finals.
