8,669 students at the University of St.Gallen

In Autumn Semester 2018, 8,669 students are enrolled at the University of St.Gallen (previous year: 8,553). The overall proportion of women is 35.7 per cent (35). The students come from 84 countries.

11 December 2018. A total of 1,762 (1,696) young people are studying in the Assessment Year, at the Bachelor’s Level 3,113 (3,014). At the Master's Level are 3,154 (3,202) students enrolled, at the Ph.D. Level 624 (624). Another 16 (17) students attended supplementary courses.

In the statistics of the cantons of origin (residence at the time of admission to the University), the Canton of Zurich with 1,182 (1,161) moved the Canton of St.Gallen with 1,010 (955) into second place. Third place is the Canton of Aargau with 409 (420) students. From the Canton of Thurgau are 387 (395) students enrolled at the HSG, from the Canton Ausser Rhoden 112 (135), from the Canton Inner Rhoden 36 (41).

The largest group of foreign students come from German-speaking countries: Germany 1,421 (1,436), Austria 259 (231) and Liechtenstein 59 (61). Major groups come from Italy 108 (106), France 99 (102), China 94 (97), the USA 46 (44), Singapore 41 (44), Russia 39 (43) and Spain 34 (39).

All in all, students from 84 (84) countries are enrolled at the HSG. The quota of foreign students at the HSG is limited to 25 per cent by law.

The enrolment statistics are published annually in December.
