8,553 students at the University of St.Gallen

In Autumn Semester 2017, 8,553 students are enrolled at the University of St.Gallen (previous year: 8,337). The overall proportion of women is 35 per cent (34.3). The students come from 84 countries.

12 December 2017. A total of 1,696 (1,705) young people are studying in the Assessment Year, at the Bachelor’s Level 3,014 (2,845). At the Master's Level are 3,202 (3,097) students enrolled, at the Ph.D. Level 624 (675).

In the statistics of the cantons of origin (residence at the time of admission to the University), the Canton of Zurich with 1,161 (1,131) moved the Canton of St.Gallen with 955 (922) into second place. Third place is the Canton of Aargau with 420 (407) students. From the Canton of Thurgau are 395 (379) students enrolled at the HSG, from the Canton Ausser Rhoden 135 (132), from the Canton Inner Rhoden 41 (43).

The largest group of foreign students come from German-speaking countries: Germany 1,436 (1,467), Austria 231 (236) and Liechtenstein 61 (69). Major groups come from Italy 106 (94), France 102 (95), China 97 (83), the USA 44 (44), Singapore 44 (39), Russia 43 (43), Spain 39 (37), Brazil 29 (29) and Japan 29 (19).

All in all, students from 84 (87) countries are enrolled at the HSG. The quota of foreign students at the HSG is limited to 25 per cent by law.

The enrolment statistics are published annually in December.
