8,020 students at the HSG

In Autumn Semester 2014, 8,020 students are enrolled at the University of St.Gallen (HSG) (previous year: 7,666). The overall proportion of women is 32.97 per cent (32.44). The students come from 88 nations.

17 December 2014. A total of 1,476 (1,328) young people are studying in the Assessment Year. The proportion of women at this level amounts to 36 per cent (34). From among the 2,654 (2.604) undergraduates at the Bachelor’s Level, 828 (814) are women, which is tantamount to 31 per cent (31). 32 per cent (32) of the 3,143 (2,986) students enrolled at the Master’s Level are women. The proportion of women among the 719 (725) doctoral students is 36 per cent (36). Further 28 (23) students are enrolled in supplementary courses.

Canton Zurich strongly represented
In the statistics of the cantons of origin (residence at the time of admission to the University), the Canton of Zurich with 1070 (1032) moved the Canton of St.Gallen with 874 (876) into second place. Third place is the Canton of Aargau with 383 (342) students, followed by the Canton of Thurgau with 352 (340) students. Substantial groups are also provided by the Canton of Berne with 331 (329) students, Lucerne with 268 (260) students, Basel-Landschaft with 216 (208) and the Grisons with 214 (201) students.

Students from 88 nations  
The largest group of foreign students come from German-speaking countries: Germany 1,507 (1,461), Austria 229 (210) and Liechtenstein 71 (58). Major groups come from Italy 86 (65), China 84 (75), France 70 (71), Russia 50 (54), the USA 41 (39), Spain 34 (41), Singapore 34 (32), India 34 (25), the UK 27 (28), Sweden 27 (26), Brazil 25 (26), and Japan 21 (23). All in all, students from 88 (79) nations are enrolled at the HSG. The quota of foreign students at the HSG is limited to 25 per cent by law.

The enrolment statistics are published annually in December.
