7325 students at the HSG

In Autumn Semester 2012, 7325 students are enrolled at the University of St.Gallen (HSG) (previous year: 7126). The overall proportion of women is 31.86 per cent (31.76). The students come from 80 nations.

11 December 2012. A total of 1293 (1332) young people are studying in the Assessment Year. The proportion of women at this level amounts to 35 per cent (33). From among the 2555 (2491) undergraduates at the Bachelor’s Level, 780 (770) are women, which is tantamount to 31 per cent (31). 31 per cent (31) of the 2711 (2535) students enrolled at the Master’s Level are women. The proportion of women among the 728 (735) doctoral students is 34 per cent (33).

Canton Zurich strongly represented
In the statistics of the cantons of origin (residence at the time of admission to the University), the Canton of Zurich with 1002 (968) moved the Canton of St.Gallen with 849 (832) into second place. Third place is the Canton of Berne with 338 (314) students, followed by the Canton of Thurgau with 325 (320) students. Substantial groups are also provided by the Canton of Aargau with 313 (301) students, Lucerne with 243 (229) students, Basel-Landschaft with 194 (181) and the Grisons with 190 (204) students.

Students from 80 nations  
The largest group of foreign students come from German-speaking countries: Germany 1453 (1431), Austria 197 (171) and Liechtenstein 58 (66). Major groups come from China 68 (58), France 63 (66), Italy 46 (36), Russia 46 (46), the USA 44 (52), Spain 30 (34), the UK 29 (26), India 27 (20), Singapore 27 (29), Sweden 24 (26), Brazil 22 (30) and Poland 22 (21). All in all, students from 80 (83) nations are enrolled at the HSG. The quota of foreign students at the HSG is limited to 25 per cent by law.

The enrolment statistics are published annually in December.
