23 December 2010. The proportion of women at the Assessment Level is 32 (34) per cent. Of the 2465 (2328) Bachelor’s students, 725 (678) are women, representing 29 (29) per cent. At the Master's Level, women account for 31 (30) per cent, at the Ph.D. Level 32 (31) per cent. Overall, there are 2073 (1959) women studying at the University of St.Gallen (HSG).
St.Gallen and Zurich cantons well represented
The canton of origin (place of residence when qualifying for university) accounting for the greatest number of students is the Canton of Zurich with 915 (915), just in front of the Canton of St.Gallen with 825 (826) students. The Canton of Thurgau takes third place with 320 (320) students, followed by the Canton of Aargau with 305 (305) students.
The largest group of foreign students, including guest students (again, place of residence where the secondary school leaving certificate was completed) comes from the German-speaking countries: Germany 1387 (1314), Austria 171 (154), Liechtenstein 65 (65).
Students from 80 nations
Larger groups of foreign students come from France, 62 (45), China 52 (35), the USA 49 (46), Russia 42 (31), Italy 33 (25), Spain 25 (21), Singapore 26 (22), the UK 22 (25), Brazil 22 (18), Sweden 14 (12), India 15 (14), Poland 12 (10), Norway 15 (15) and Mexico 10 (8). The percentage of foreign students at the University of St.Gallen (HSG) is stipulated at 25 per cent by law.
