5928 Students at the HSG

In Fall Semester 2008, 5928 students are matriculated at the University of St.Gallen (previous year: 5367). The quota of women totals 29.88 percent (previous year: 28.90).

18 December 2008. Overall, a total of 2061 (1875) students are undergraduates. 1746 (1607) students are attending a Master’s program. At the Doctoral Level, 789 (809) students are matriculated. The quota of foreign nationals is fixed at 25 percent.

1771 women at the HSG
The quota of women at the Assessment Level is 31 percent (31). 590 (522) out of the 2061 undergraduates are women, which amounts to 29 percent (28). At the Master’s Level, the quota of women is 30 percent (29); the same figures apply to the Doctoral Level.

851 Students from the Canton of Zurich
In the statistics regarding the cantons of origin (place of residence at the time of qualifying for higher education), the Canton of St.Gallen with 791 (705) students was beaten by the Canton of Zurich’s 851 (811). Students from the Canton of Thurgau are again in third place with 308 (277), followed by the Canton of Aargau with 297 (280).

About 1000 students originate from the cantons of Berne 261 (234), Basel City and Basel Country 221 (203), the Grisons 185 (171), and Lucerne 178 (153).

Students from 79 nations
The largest group of foreign students, including guest students (again, place of residence at the time of qualifying for higher education), originate from the German-speaking countries: Germany 1176 (1085), Austria 132 (119), and Liechtenstein 65 (62).

Sizeable groups originate from France 51 (41), the USA 42 (38), China 23 (25), Russia 30 (24), the UK 21 (20), Singapore 27 (19), Sweden 16 (19), Spain 20 (17), India 12 (16), Italy 16 (15), Poland 14 (15), Brazil 18 (14), Norway 15 (12), and Finland 11 (11). Overall, students from 79 nations are matriculated at the HSG.
