17 February 2014. In the course of the award ceremony, President Thomas Bieger handed over 57 doctor's degree certificates: 33 in Economic Sciences, ten in Law, four in Political Science, three in Social Science and seven PhDs in Economics and Finance.

The proportion of women has risen
President Thomas Bieger traditionally opened the award ceremony and congratulated the students on their successful graduation. For the first time ever, more than a third of the graduates were women. Thus the proportion of women has risen from just under 30 per cent to 38.5 per cent in recent years. The age structure also reflects the diversity of students at the University of St.Gallen. A student of advanced years decided to obtain a doctor's degree, and at the proud age of 80 she was able to receive her degree certificate. The youngest graduates are 28 years old.

Ceremonial address on "Social Engineering"
The welcoming address to graduates and guests was given by alumnus Christoph Hürlimann, President of the HSG Alumni Entrepreneurs Club. "Encouragement" was what alumna Nicola Maria Breitschopf, Helvetia Insurance, St.Gallen, offered graduates on their way. The musical background to the ceremony was provided by a duo from the St.Gallen Symphony Orchestra: Claire Pasquier played the piano and Marc Fournel the flute. In his ceremonial address, Bieger spoke about the difference between technical and social "engineering".
