Embeddedness hand in hand with globalisation
In his address, President Thomas Bieger looked into what accompanies globalisation quietly and secretly – and is not yet covered by any curriculum. He spoke of the increasing importance of embeddedness – the deliberate establishment and cultivation of people’s relationships with their environments.

Internationalisation thanks to regionalisation
Embeddedness, said Bieger, could also be interpreted as part of an integrated understanding of sustainability. It was a symbiotic development of economic actors in their environments, and many companies were beginning to shape these relationships with their environments in a more conscious manner.

To conclude, Bieger gave the graduates a piece of advice on their way: “The important thing I would like to tell you is that the skills of ‘embedding’ will enable you to gain a competitive edge but also to enhance your own quality of life and life balance. […] Make additional use of your skills for regionalisation and for the cultivation of local roots.” Correspondingly, they could also follow the motto of their alma mater, namely “internationalisation thanks to regionalisation”.
